In The Winter

The Botanical Garden's plants have settled in for a quiet snow-clad season, but there's still a lot going on. Many different types of birds are easy to spot in the bare trees, and you'll find the tracks and traces of deer and other garden residents. Look for the winter jasmine in bloom on the west side of the Manor, and the witchhazel collection near the Annex, which offers yellow and orange sunshine amid February snows. The Garden's main roads and parking lots are always promptly cleared of snow, so winter is a great time to come visit and take a walk. Or, if you like snowshoes or cross-country skis, you'll find plenty of varied terrain to explore in the meadows and woodlands that surround the Garden. Free.
