NJBG Events

Programs are free unless otherwise noted. Donations are gratefully accepted. For events that require reservations, or for questions, please call the NJBG office at (973) 962-9534.

All events begin or take place at the Carriage House Visitor Center unless otherwise specified.

There is a $5.00 per car State Park parking fee on summer Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. At all other times, parking is free.

Skylands is a carry-in, carry-out State Park facility. Please carry your trash and litter back out with you and dispose of it properly.

Remember, no pets, picnics, alcohol, balls, frisbees, nor lawn games are permitted in the Botanical Garden.

August

  • August 3 (Sunday), 11 am-3 pm
    Skylands Manor Tours. Historic tours guided by knowledgeable NJBG docents. The last tour begins at 3 pm. Manor House tour dates are subject to change; please check back. Adults: $7; Seniors: $5; Students 13-18: $5; Children 6-12: $3; Under 6: Free. ($5/car State Park parking fee.).
  • August 8 (Friday), 6:30 pm
    Concert: Rave On! Classics from the legends of early rock 'n roll--great tunes, great memories! Bring a lawn chair; concert moves to the Carriage House in bad weather. (raveonband.com). $5 donation requested.

  • August 9 (Saturday), 11 am-4 pm
    Summer Craft Fair. Tons of fun for the whole family! Over 40 booths with beautiful crafts, including jewelry, pottery, sculpture, art, kids' stuff, and all kinds of unusual goodies. Lots of great food and drink, too! Free admission to Craft Fair & Garden. ($5/car State Park parking fee.).
  • August 10 (Sunday), 12 pm-3 pm
    Butterfly Walk. Join us for a celebration of NJBG's beautiful flying jewels! Guided Butterfly Walks all afternoon, information on starting your own butterfly garden and more! Meet at the Carriage House. Rain cancels. Presented by the Bergen County Audubon Society. Free. ($5/car State Park parking fee.).
  • August 17 (Sunday), 1 pm
    Family Woodland Hike. An easy, child-friendly hike in the Garden's woodlands where you'll learn a bit about the plants, animals, and geology around you in a hike designed to fit the group. Smaller children may need to be carried. Wear sturdy shoes, meet at the Carriage House Visitor Center. Rain cancels. Free. ($5/car State Park parking fee.).
  • August 20 (Wednesday), 10 am
    All-America Selections Garden Showcase. NJBG joins gardens all around the country as an All-America Selections Display Garden. Each year, AAS sends seeds from the latest new selections, which are grown in a special part of the Botanical Garden. Come see how this year's crop is doing! Meet at the Carriage House. Rain cancels. Free.
  • August 22 (Friday), 6:30 pm
    Concert: No Fuss and Feathers. Folk with a sophisticated contemporary sound, including Carolann Solobello, Karyn Oliver, and The YaYas, Catherine Miles, and Jay Mafale. Bring a lawn chair; concert moves to the Carriage House in bad weather. (facebook.com/NoFussAndFeathersRoadshow). $5 donation requested.

    Lilac Care Workshops. Come work in the Lilac Garden and get a hands-on lesson in lilac pruning, thinning, dead-heading, and general lilac care from Dan Ryniec, former Lilac Curator at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Lesson at 10 am. Rain Date: Sept. 27. Free.
  • September 13 (Saturday), 1 pm
    Black Bears. Nature educator Russell Brust will introduce you to the black bears which live in the forests and backyards of New Jersey--and at NJBG!--in a presentation at the Carriage House. You'll learn about the bears' lifestyle, how you can help protect them, and what to do if you meet one! Please call 973-962-9534 to reserve your spot. $5 donation.
  • September 14 (Sunday), 10 am
    Audubon Nature Walk. September is prime migration time for both birds and butterflies. Join us as we walk the garden and fields identifying the plants and looking for the butterflies and birds that visit the NJBG on their fall journey. Meet at the Carriage House. Rain cancels. Presented by the Bergen County Audubon Society. Free.
  • September 19 (Friday), 6 pm
    30th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser. Join us for a festive evening at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes, NJ, to celebrate 30 years of beauty at the New Jersey State Botanical Garden. Cocktails 6-7 pm, with dinner and a delightful guest speaker to follow. Includes Silent Auction, door prizes, and gift bags. Proceeds benefit NJBG, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, and its Carriage House Restoration fund. Tickets: $150 per person; $1,350 for a table of 10.     Deer-Resistant Plantings. Bambi is charming, but not when he's eating your favorite plants. Emil Rostello of Jacobsen's Landscaping will introduce you to great plants, ideas, and tricks to help make your garden more deer-resistant. $5 donation requested.

YOUR GARDEN
Come visit often for a constantly-changing display of color and bloom sure to cheer your heart. The Botanical Garden is open every day from 8 am to 8 pm Garden admission is always free. $5 per car parking fee on summer weekends and holidays. Weekday parking is free.

[GS] GARDEN SATURDAYS
Our interesting and varied program series offers you a brand-new adventure on Saturday mornings.

MANOR TOURS
...are offered on Sunday afternoons, March through November. Knowledgeable docents will introduce you to the architecture and history of beautiful Skylands Manor. Adults: $7; Seniors: $5; Students 13-18: $5; Children 6-12: $3; Under 6: Free. Please check the calendar for exact dates and times.

GIFT SHOP
Sunday afternoons from 12 noon-4 pm, April through December (weather permitting). Great gift ideas, shirts, books, garden supplies, and children's items. Credit cards accepted.

HIKE & BIKE
Always a pleasure on the Garden's many safe and beautiful hiking & biking trails.

FAMILY WOODLAND WALK
Our easy, child-friendly walks one Sunday afternoon each month are a great way to explore nature. Free.

VOLUNTEER IN THE GARDEN
NJBG volunteers help maintain the gardens, give tours, and offer many other public services. To volunteer, inquire at the office. We'd love to have you!

PLEASE REMEMBER...
