NJBG Events

Programs are free unless otherwise noted. Donations are gratefully accepted. For events that require reservations, or for questions, please call the NJBG office at (973) 962-9534.

All events begin or take place at the Carriage House Visitor Center unless otherwise specified.

State Park Parking Fee: On summer Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, there is a State Park parking fee of $5 for New Jersey-registered vehicles and $7 for non-New Jersey-registered vehicles. Oversized vehicles (vehicles that occupy more than one normal parking space, including vehicles with trailers, RVs, etc.) are charged double the normal rate. At all other times, parking is free.

Skylands is a carry-in, carry-out State Park facility. Please carry your trash and litter back out with you and dispose of it properly.

Remember, no pets, picnics, alcohol, balls, frisbees, nor lawn games are permitted in the Botanical Garden.

April

  • April 29 (Saturday), 1 pm
    Butterfly & Pollinator Garden Planting. Come help us plant a new butterfly garden at NJBG, filled with plants that attract may different pollinators. Sponsored by the Bergen County Audubon Society, this new garden area will be educational, environmentally friendly, and filled with flowers. Wear sturdy shoes, dress to garden, bring gloves if you have them. Meet at the Carriage House. Rain cancels. Call 917-962-9534 for updated time info. Free.
  • April 30 (Sunday), 1 pm
    Audubon: Birding for Beginners. Don Torino of the Bergen County Audubon Society offers an indoor introduction to birding, followed by a walk in the Gardens to look for some of our avian friends (weather permitting). Great for youngsters and the young at heart! At the Carriage House Visitor Center. Free.

Plant Sale

  • May 5 (Friday), 6:30 pm
    Plant Sale ~ Member's Preview & Reception. We thank our members each year with an invitation to the special pre-opening to our annual Plant Sale. You'll love the array of unusual specimens! NJBG members only. Free admissions; NJBG members only.
  • May 6-7 (Saturday-Sunday), 10 am-4 pm
    Plant Sale. Perennials, annuals, vegetables, herbs, trees, shrubs, vines, ground covers, hanging baskets and potted plants. Knowledgeable Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer advice, and the plants are lush and healthy. Come early for the best selection. Free admission.
  • May 14 (Sunday), 10 am-4 pm
    Plant Sale. Perennials, annuals, vegetables, herbs, trees, shrubs, vines, ground covers, hanging baskets and potted plants. Knowledgeable Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer advice, and the plants are lush and healthy. Come early for the best selection. Free admission.

    Spring Wildflower Walk. Join Darlene Nowak and Sandy Zenkel in checking out the many delightful spring bloomers in the Wildflower Garden! Wear sturdy shoes, meet at the Carriage House. Rain cancels. $5 donation.
  • May 13 (Saturday), 12 noon-4 pm
    Lilac Garden Splendor. The Lilac Garden is a large collection of these sweet-scented and prolific spring beauties, in the peak of bloom this time of year. Members of NJBG's Lilac team will be in this part of the Garden to answer any questions you might have. Free; donations welcome.
  • May 13 (Saturday), 2 pm
    Concert: Loretta Hagen. A rising folk music star, her lilting sound will charm you. In the Carriage House Visitor Center. (Visit Loretta Hagen's website.). Tickets: $15 in advance+$1.75 per ticket handling fee, available at TicketLeap. $18 day of show at the door, if any tickets are left. Limited to the first 75.

  • May 14 (Sunday), 12 noon-4 pm

    Skylands Manor Tours. NJBG volunteer docents lead visitors on a tour of the architecture and history of Skylands Manor. Fee: $7 adults; $5 seniors and students ages 13-18; $3 ages 6-12; free under 6.
  • May 21 (Sunday), 1 pm-3 pm
    Children's Container Gardening Workshop. Join Nancy Cochrane to explore the fun of gardening. Learn to grow veggies and herbs in different containers and take home what you plant. In the Carriage House. Ages 6 and up; children under 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Reservations required at 973-962-9534; sorry, no walk-ins. $10 members, $15 non-members.
  • May 21 (Sunday), 1 pm
    Family Woodland Hike. Join NJBG hike leaders on an easy, child-friendly hike in the Garden's woodlands. Learn a bit about the plants, animals and geology around you on a hike designed to fit the group. Wear sturdy shoes, meet at the Carriage House. Rain cancels. Free.

All Summer Concerts will be held on Fridays at 6:30 pm on the Concert Lawn. Bring a lawn chair. Indoors in bad weather. $5 donation.


YOUR GARDEN
Come visit often for a constantly-changing display of color and bloom sure to cheer your heart. The Botanical Garden is open every day from 8 am to 8 pm Garden admission is always free. $5 per New Jersey-registered car parking fee on summer weekends and holidays (weekends, Memorial Day to Labor Day), $7 for out-of-state registered cars. Oversized vehicles (including trailers and RVs) pay double. Weekday parking is free.

MANOR TOURS
...are offered on Sunday afternoons, March through November. Knowledgeable docents will introduce you to the architecture and history of beautiful Skylands Manor. Adults: $7; Seniors: $5; Students 13-18: $5; Children 6-12: $3; Under 6: Free. Please check the calendar for exact dates and times.

GIFT SHOP
Sunday afternoons from 12 noon-4 pm, April through December (weather permitting). Great gift ideas, shirts, books, garden supplies, and children's items. Credit cards accepted.

HIKE & BIKE
Always a pleasure on the Garden's many safe and beautiful hiking & biking trails.

FAMILY WOODLAND WALK
Our easy, child-friendly walks one Sunday afternoon each month are a great way to explore nature. Free.

VOLUNTEER IN THE GARDEN
NJBG volunteers help maintain the gardens, give tours, and offer many other public services. To volunteer, inquire at the office or call (973) 962-9534. We'd love to have you!

PLEASE REMEMBER...
