NJBG Events

Programs are free unless otherwise noted. Donations are gratefully accepted. For events that require reservations, or for questions, please call the NJBG office at (973) 962-9534.

All events begin or take place at the Carriage House Visitor Center unless otherwise specified.

State Park Parking Fee: On summer Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, there is a State Park parking fee of $5 for New Jersey-registered vehicles and $7 for non-New Jersey-registered vehicles. Oversized vehicles (vehicles that occupy more than one normal parking space, including vehicles with trailers, RVs, etc.) are charged double the normal rate. At all other times, parking is free.

Skylands is a carry-in, carry-out State Park facility. Please carry your trash and litter back out with you and dispose of it properly.

Remember, no pets, picnics, alcohol, balls, frisbees, nor lawn games are permitted in the Botanical Garden.

Free Guided Garden Tours - Sundays, 2 p.m., May through October. Steady rain cancels. Meet at the Carriage House Visitor Center and wear comfortable shoes.

December

  • December 4-7 (Thursday-Sunday), 10 am-4 pm
    Holiday Open House at Skylands Manor. The Manor will be decorated floor to ceiling for the holiday season, warm and welcoming with a totally different look every year! Daytime Tours ~ 10 am to 4 pm daily. No baby strollers allowed in the Manor. Last ticket sold at 4 pm. $8/adults; $7/seniors; $5/children 6-12; under 6 free.
  • December 5-6 (Friday-Saturday), 6 pm-8 pm
    Champagne & Candlelight Evening Tours. The Manor will be yours for a leisurely stroll with champagne, light refreshments and valet parking. Reservations required. Tickets available at 973-962-9534 and online at our Holiday Open House page. $35/members; $40/guests and non-members. Individual, senior and student members may buy 1 ticket for any evening at the special member price, Family and other member categories may buy 2 tickets at the special member price.
  • December 21 (Sunday), 1 pm
    Family Winter Hike. An easy, child-friendly hike in the Garden's woodlands. Learn a bit about the plants, animals and geology around you in a hike designed to fit the group. Wear sturdy shoes, meet at the Carriage House. Rain cancels. FREE.

January 2015

  • January 1 (Thursday), 1 pm
    First Day Hike. Join members of NJBG and the State Park staff on an easy, child-friendly hike in the Garden's woodlands. We'll join nature lovers hiking all around the country to celebrate our beautiful state parks. Our hike in and around the Botanical Garden will be designed to fit the group. Wear sturdy shoes, meet at the Carriage House. Snow cancels. FREE.
  • January 4 (Sunday), 11 am-3 pm
    Skylands Manor Tours. Historic tours guided by knowledgeable NJBG docents. The last tour begins at 3 pm. Manor House tour dates are subject to change; please check back. Adults: $7; Seniors: $5; Students 13-18: $5; Children 6-12: $3; Under 6: Free.
  • January 17 (Saturday), 10 am
    Landscape Design at Skylands: A Historical Perspective. Join Head Landscape Designer Rich Flynn for a slide program on the history of garden design at Skylands, originally created by some of the most famous landscaping names of the era. The program will be held in the Carriage House, and cancels only in the event of an ongoing snowstorm. $5 Donation requested.

February

  • February 1 (Sunday), 11 am-3 pm

  • February 22 (Sunday), 1 pm
    Owls of New Jersey. Don Torino of the Bergen County Audubon Society offers an indoor photo presentation on these fascinating raptors, touching on the many different species that inhabit our region. In the Carriage House. Snow cancels. FREE.

March

  • March 1 (Sunday), 11 am-3 pm

  • March 12 (Thursday), 10 am-5 pm
    SpringFest Flower & Garden Show at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. Visit the NJBG exhibit at one of New Jersey's best garden shows. Open daily 10 am-5 pm March 12-15 (Thu-Sun), 2015 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, N.J. With garden exhibits and displays, lectures, special events, a kids' zone and a super garden marketplace, it's a sure cure for cabin fever. Tickets may be purchased at the gate. www.newjerseystatefair.org/SpringFest/springfest.cfm. Adults: $12, Seniors (65+): $9, Children under 12: FREE. Special Senior Day: Thursday, March 12, 2015: $8.
  • March 15 (Sunday), 1 pm
    Family Woodland Hike. Join Rich Cahayla-Wynne on an easy, child-friendly hike in the Garden's woodlands. Learn a bit about the plants, animals and geology around you on a hike designed to fit the group. Wear sturdy shoes, meet at the Carriage House. Snow/rain cancels. FREE.
  • March 21 (Saturday), 10 am
    End-of-Winter Tree Walk. Join Head Landscape Designer Rich Flynn as he leads this perennial favorite. Learn the differences between trees and how to tell them apart in this special tree walk. Meet at the Carriage House; wear sturdy, comfortable shoes. FREE.

YOUR GARDEN
Come visit often for a constantly-changing display of color and bloom sure to cheer your heart. The Botanical Garden is open every day from 8 am to 8 pm Garden admission is always free. $5 per car parking fee on summer weekends and holidays. Weekday parking is free.

[GS] GARDEN SATURDAYS
Our interesting and varied program series offers you a brand-new adventure on Saturday mornings.

MANOR TOURS
...are offered on Sunday afternoons, March through November. Knowledgeable docents will introduce you to the architecture and history of beautiful Skylands Manor. Adults: $7; Seniors: $5; Students 13-18: $5; Children 6-12: $3; Under 6: Free. Please check the calendar for exact dates and times.

GIFT SHOP
Sunday afternoons from 12 noon-4 pm, April through December (weather permitting). Great gift ideas, shirts, books, garden supplies, and children's items. Credit cards accepted.

HIKE & BIKE
Always a pleasure on the Garden's many safe and beautiful hiking & biking trails.

FAMILY WOODLAND WALK
Our easy, child-friendly walks one Sunday afternoon each month are a great way to explore nature. Free.

VOLUNTEER IN THE GARDEN
NJBG volunteers help maintain the gardens, give tours, and offer many other public services. To volunteer, inquire at the office. We'd love to have you!

PLEASE REMEMBER...
